Our Values: Mrs. Nance Emphasizes Relationships in Her 2nd Grade Classroom
At Randolph, relationships are essential to our thriving school community. Teaching and learning happen in the context of meaningful relationships and everyone in our community works together, as partners, to help students achieve success.
One shining example of that is in Mary Catherine Nance's 2nd grade classroom. Walking in the door of her Lower School classroom feels like the warmth of a hug. Or sometimes, it's a fist bump, gentle shoulder tap, or knowing wink. As an experienced educator, her steadiness, thoughtfulness, and commitment to connecting with each student as an individual is something that students notice, and families sincerely appreciate.

"During pickup recently, my son got in the car and the first thing he expressed to me about his day was, 'Mrs. Nance always has a smile on her face!'"
Allison Proud shares that this joy is a common theme for her child and his days in Mrs. Nance's class.
"Mrs. Nance has built such a positive relationship with him and his classmates in such a short span of this school year," says Proud. "For Owen, this has contributed to him thriving academically, socially, and emotionally. He is excited to get to school each day and eager to work hard to learn new things thanks to her support and encouragement."

Chambers says she feels a sense of comfort knowing that her family has a true partner in ensuring that their son continues to develop as a young learner.
"Knowing we’d been working at home with Branson on 'doing your best work,' she recently sent us a sweet email," says Chambers. "Getting organic feedback like this truly made our weekend. Thank you, Mrs. Nance, for all you do for our kids!"
In the email that also included a scanned picture of the test, Mrs. Nance wrote, "I am very proud of this spelling test! Branson is making progress and working hard. Check out how neat his paper is. Have a great weekend!"
